30 years ago the Leafs owner said he would sign Herb Carnegie if they could turn him white. After a strong Black Lives Movement in Canada and the United States prior to George Floyd and Regis Korchinski Paquette killing the world is calling for change.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a positive action to sign all-star forward Wayne Simmons to the club and add some colour to the team. Wayne a Toronto native is a great poster child to lead the push to bring equality and diversity to the game. He is a descendant of the Coloured Hockey League of Nova Scotia and the Maritimes, where the first goal tender to leave his feet to stop the puck and the first player to do a slap shot. Due to political racism in Africville, nova Scotia the league was sabotaged and was denied access to ice contracts which limited their ability to grow the league.
